"Doomsday Clock" Review

DC Comics has been in a rather screwed-up state for a while, haven't they? At least in my humble opinion ever since 2011's "Flashpoint" series and the introduction of "The New 52" DC has been a steady decline. I have no clue if this is true or not, but again in my humble opinion, this reboot of the universe caused me to view Grant Morrison's "Final Crisis" as the series finale to The DC Universe. And DC Comics has rebooted itself once again with DC Rebirth back in 2016 culminating in the miniseries in question, "Doomsday Clock". "Doomsday Clock" serves as an epilogue to the DC Rebirth storyline as well as a sequel to Alan Moore's maxiseries "Watchmen". Talk about big shoes to fill, I need not discuss the impact "Watchmen" had on the comic book scene at large both negative and positives and I need not discuss the utter and absolute failure the HBO series was (which was itself a sequel to "Watchmen"). Instead, I'm going to focus this review on what "Doomsday Clock" tried to do, and explain what it should have done (not doing it in the first place notwithstanding). So join me in this rabbit hole of craziness we call "Doomsday Clock"...

Final Thoughts On Superman vs. Batman: Dawn Of Justice

So I watched the trailer last night and watched it again not too long ago to maybe absorb what I may or may not have missed and while my initial reaction was...well...underwhelmed, I unfortunately remain underwhelmed. Let's talk about the positives. For starters I'm still liking Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. We've seen the brooding, cold, calculated Lex Luthor. Superman's elder who's fixated on power and control. Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor is less of a physical presence and more of intellectual titan. His first appearance on the screen he's visibly small in size and stature to both men, his voice is higher pitched and he's much more jovial than either of them, however he is completely self-absorbed and is delightfully devious. I think I will enjoy this Lex Luthor...and that's about the ONLY positive I have to say.

Batman: "The Court Of Owls" Review

Ever since The DC Comics Reboot after the events of "Flashpoint" which resulted in The New 52, I've been shying away from The DC Universe more and more (sadly, the same can be said for it's attempted cinematic universe as well). But while I've been staying away from DC Comics, I've still had my eyes and ears to the "streets" to remain informed about the latest goings on. This brings me to everyone's favorite from The DC Universe, Batman and The Court Of Owls story arc that was introduced in The New 52. In my humble opinion, this story was crap, granted this is my opinion, therefore it's subjective crap and not objectively crap, which is good for people who liked it. I did not and I'm going to explain why.

Comics & Feminism Pt. 2: Thor WITH BOOBS!!

Switching gears, let's talk about Marvel Comics and it's latest indiscretion. I've been rather lenient with Marvel, mostly because I'm a DC guy (not so much these days, until they turn Beast Boy green again, and while I understand that the "Mortal Kombat X" comic books are under the DC imprint, I am reading those for "Mortal Kombat" and not DC) and I'm a lot harder on what I love than what I also love (in this case, Marvel is like my step-son, sure, I care about him but he's not really mine). That being said, Marvel has wowed us with it's Cinematic Universe but on the page, Marvel's got some problems. One of those problems came in the form of a Norse Goddess with Boobs. Let's get to it;

Comics & Feminism Pt.1: Killing The Joke

Let's talk about things Strangeverse. It's been awhile since I've talked about DC & Marvel comics and usually when I bring up my old pals at DC Comics, I have nothing positive to say...I regret that this time won't be any different, but lucky for DC it won't be getting spanked alone, as Marvel will be joining them. Now I'm a DC person which is why I mention DC more often and am a lot harder on them than I am on Marvel. I haven't forgiven DC for making Beastboy red, turning Starfire into a callous whore, turning Wally West & Huntress Black (because diversity) and basically giving it to the DC Universe full on in the ass with no lube. But now Marvel is doing so and while their offense is minor, it's nonetheless glaring. While better people than I have spoken to these issues, I figured I'd best chime in with my 2 cents with 2 articles. So let's get to it;

The "Suicide Squad" Movie ?

So up until now I've been pretty lenient with the upcoming "Suicide Squad" movie DC/Warner Bros. has planned (and "strategically" placed before "Wonder Woman") but now I'm gonna start legitimately raising eyebrows and asking some serious questions. One of things I've applauded Marvel for is there ability to cast actors who look the part and more over are relatively unknowns. Robert Downey Jr. (and RDJ hadn't been a name in a LONG time before "Ironman") & Samuel L. Jackson are the biggest names of The Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston weren't names but they're become names because of the characters they've played. Instead of relying on names, Marvel has managed to create their own names and successfully used character actors such as Benicio Del Toro and many others to their advantage. Meanwhile, DC/Warner Bros. is doing the exact opposite and in my opinion the wrong thing by relying on names to make their movies. This couldn't be more obvious than having Ben Affleck as Batman & Will Smith (of all people) as DC's most unlikable character (in my opinion) Deadshot (also has Will Smith EVER played a villain? Somebody get on that right now.)

This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things...

I tried writing this before but this time, I think I got it. This is gonna be a LONG and possibly very angry (but well thought-out and accurate) article so you might want to put on a pot of coffee as I'm gonna address a few things. Over the past 2 years or so I've noticed a disturbing trend that has grown and has become a re-occurring thorn in my side, so much so that I've written two articles addressing it already (HERE & HERE). But unfortunately, this topic continues to resurface and grow many heads like some undying (Hail) Hydra. So in case you didn't read the previous articles I'll tell you what the trend is. The trend is people suggesting and changing previously White Characters into Black Characters or Male Characters into Female Characters all in the name of diversity. I'll be addressing that and another problem I've noticed. This other problem is the one that frustrates me the most and that's African Americans who complain NON-STOP about African American portrayals in film and DO NOTHING ABOUT IT! I'll address all these things and more. It's a tall order, let's get started...

What's Up With The DC Cinematic Universe ?

So what's up everyone? I think it's high time I finally chimed in on this topic. People have been cast, titles have been announced, release dates have been set, plans have been made, The DC Cinematic Universe is finally crawling from development hell and into reality. However, instead of hearing the elation of fans, we've been seen a collective raising of eyebrows and scratching of heads. But why? How did Marvel manage to sweep the floor from underneath DC's feet and get a handle on the movie business when DC/Warner Bros. were the 1st on the scene to make comic book movies a thing (with "Superman" coming out in 1978). How has DC fallen so hard since then and what is Marvel doing right that DC isn't. Well, hopefully in this article, I'll be able to explain all of this and more;

Fan Rage & The Right To B*tch

In light of the recent "Iron Man 3" Mandarin Controversy (That I'm officially calling "Mandargate"), I watched several videos and read a few articles detailing the polarizing reactions from fans and laymen alike which lead me to write this article, Do fans have the right to bitch? The short answer is Yes, and I'll give you the long answer after the break;

Wonder Woman Gets The "Smallville" Treatment and Lobo Might Get A Movie ?

So not too long ago it was announced that Warner Bros./DC Entertainment was in talks of doing a Lobo movie with The Rock starring as the titular character. This announcement left MANY of us stunned and at a loss for words because...out of the MANY DC characters who should have gotten movies LONG time ago (Wonder Woman aside) The Flash, Captain Marvel, Aquaman (just to name a few) Warner Bros./DC decided that Lobo is what the fans want...

Oh yeah, I smell dollar signs.

There are a multitude of reasons why this is a HORRIBLE idea but allow me to list just a few (I know, ONLY A FEW?!)

The Continuing Fail Of DC Comics

Words cannot express how frustrated I am with the current state of affairs at DC comics. But more perplexing is that Warner Bros. is somehow under the impression that they can get a Justice League movie going.
