Early Concerns For The New "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Movie

With my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Retrospective done, I can finally focus my attention on Michael Bay's upcoming film and I have quite a bit to say. For starters I want to say that I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO faith in this film, Will Fitchner as The Shredder aside, it just looks awful and I'm going to elaborate why.

And here we are, the sequel to the first "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". The common consensus among 90s kids like myself is that this film was a good movie, and while I'm not saying it's a bad movie, I am saying that it pales in comparison to the first film. This was the film in the Turtles trilogy that I had the hardest time remembering, I did remember aspects of it (such as Vanilla Ice's unforgettable cameo) but other than that this film just didn't stand out to me much. But I'm not going to insert my subjective reasons for not holding this film in high regard, I am instead, going to hold this film up to it's predecessor and see how it stands and provide some objective reasons why this film just isn't what people think it is.

The First Turtles movie came out in 1990 during the run of the much beloved animated series that debuted in 1987 and continued until 1996. With a cartoon MUCH beloved by its fans, it was ONLY logical that a feature film would find itself in production one day. Back then these things were looked on with MUCH anticipation, nowadays they're looked upon with scorn and pity for their fan base.  The film was directed by Steve Barron in one of his first feature film directing gigs and this film also features the first gigs of MANY names we know in the film industry, specifically Sally Menke, who, 2 years after became Quentin Tarantino's primary editor on ALL of his films.

HELLO! How are you ? I'm fine, thank you for asking. So you're all probably wondering what this is ? Allow me to explain, well this was originally going to be a one shot video for more exclusive content on my blog, but thanks to the "good" folks at Blip.tv for screwing me over, I have to write these as articles. That being said, lately I've been going back and watching some movies of my childhood and I was reminded on just how exciting and awesome The "Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle" movies were. So I decided to deconstruct each movie an article and explain just what was so great about them and point out some of the bad things.

I have to preamble this by saying I don't expect people to agree with me, but I'm at least hoping you listen to my points and consider the following. Considering the time these movies came out, these were REALLY ballsy attempts at bringing family friendly cartoon characters to the big screen, and not to mention accurately interpreting them. In this day and age where just about everything is being inaccurately adapted for the silver screen the complaints you'd have for these movies pale in comparison. BUT don't take my word for it, watch this review and make up your mind afterwards. Oh, and I won't be reviewing The "TMNT" movie, considering that's a CGI reboot and doesn't flow with the continuity of the original trilogy and I won't be reviewing the live action TV series either, at least not in this series. Hopefully, I can finish this before the wretched Michael Bay produced reboot comes out...ugh.
