So what's up? Let's talk about things for a bit. I changed jobs, W00T! I now work at a grocery store! Which means better hours and closer location and direct deposit! W00T! That being said a whole lot of nonsense happened lately, let's dive in head first, ya'll.
Let's talk about a few things going on in the world of The DCEU...specifically we got a new Batman now that Ben Affleck has officially walked away from the trainwreck that is the DCEU, and that new Batman is Robert Pattison of "Twilight" fame. Let's get a few things outta the way, I'm not gonna make any "Twilight" jokes, Pattison is a fine actor (not in "Twilight", unfortunately, he did the best he could with what was givin' to him). I will say that he certainly fits the part of a young Bruce Wayne if "Twilight" has proven anything it's that he's got that brooding thing down perfectly. However, and this is just me, DC has a HUGE Batman problem and quite frankly, I think DC suffers from server Batman exhaustion. It's been 2 years since the release of "Justice League" (where Ben Affleck donned the cape and cowl) and now we're getting a new Batman...bare in mind that on the small screen we've had "Gotham" and while Batman makes no appearance in that show let's not kid ourselves, they've found some way to shoehorn in Bruce's training to becoming The Bat.
And now we got "Batwoman", the newest installment to The CW's DCTVerse...or Arrowverse as they're calling it...and don't even get me started on Batman villains appearing in "Arrow". It seems like DC is incapable of getting a project off the ground if it isn't Batman or at least Batman adjacent (hence the recent "Joker" movie). While DC is getting away from that (after all "Aquaman", "Wonder Woman" and I can't believe I'm saying this but "Shazam" a.k.a The REAL Captain Marvel did pretty well in the box office), their long term plans have yet to materialize. And this is my point, if they hadn't tried to blow their load prematurely with rushing "Justice League" we'd still have a whole slew of DC movies down the pike after The MCU pretty much rode off into the sunset...and as a comic book fan and a movie fan that would have been pretty neat.
Am I going to see this new Batman movie? NO! Despite the fact that The Riddler being rumored (as of now) as the main villain I have no inclination to see this movie. And this sucks because I've been waiting for a live-action, up to date Riddler that wasn't Jim Carey and "Nightcrawler" is the CLOSEST to a Riddler movie that we'll ever get because the butcher job they did to the character on "Gotham" is unacceptable. But these are my thoughts. As I've said, I've been done with DC ever since they botched "Justice League" and it's gonna take a good long while before the taste of that movie is washed outta my mouth. Perhaps DC has better luck on the small screen as (dare I say it) The upcoming Arrowverse's "Crisis On Infinite Earths" mini-series looks down-right awesome and might warrant me checking that out in the future...late future in a series of boxset DVDs...but as it stands, naw, I'm just not interested. And I'm sure (given my track record) you guys are expecting me to say something about the casting of a Jeffery Wright (a Black man) as Commissioner Gordon...and...I don't care...Commissioner Gordon has been a fat guy, a skinny guy and while he's consistently been white, he's not necessary for Batman to exist and therefore I don't care. That's allI'm gonna say on the topic.
Moving right along, let's talk about some anime. As you guys know I've been jumping back into anime...actually I've been all up in anime recently and I decided to check out "Goblin Slayer". Certain animes really hook you from the jump, and I've seen a few memes depicting Goblin Slayer (the character) and his absolute hatred of goblins and the female characters (specifically Sword Maiden) expressing their lust for him only for him to rebuff them due to his commitment to killing goblins and that's basically what got me interested. Long story short, I enjoy these one-shot animes (currently only has 1 Season), whether or not I'll continue to watch it is a mystery as time is a currency that I'm lacking very much so these days.
In the meantime, I've finally finished playing "Silent Hill: Downpour". Now I'm a huge fan of Silent Hill as a concept and as a series (and I have a huge crush on Heather Mason...don't judge me!) but I've never played any of the games. "Silent Hills" was going to be my first "Silent Hill" game, a game that boasted Norman Reedus, Guillermo Del Toro, Hideo Kojima and the topper Junji Freakin' Itoas Art Director...that game was looking to quite possibly be the scariest thing in the world of gaming...but the "geniuses" over at Konami decided that slot machines were a better investment (and if you think I'm joking just...just look at how they massacred my boy). While I understand "Silent Hill: Downpour"wasn't well-received among fans, I had a good time with it.
Since we're on the topic of video games, let's talk about "The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan". Their first offering was "Until Dawn", which didn't have The Dark Pictures Anthology name attached to it (probably because they decided to make it an anthology after the fact). While I had my problems with "Until Dawn" it was a fairly decent game, "Man Of Medan" is NOT! I can hardly even call it game because it was over so fast that I really didn't get the chance to digest what I just played. While "Until Dawn" had some major second act problems, this game has MAJOR problems with its story. To spoil it because I doubt you guys care, there is NOTHING supernatural in the game and the overall problem is these rich kids trying to escape from a group of raiders who think they're about to steal some gold but end up finding an abandoned ship filled with toxic hallucinogenic gas. For a game boasting the acting talents of one of The Ashmore Twins (who is barely in the game), it was pretty bad. If you're thinking of grabbing this title SKIP IT and play "Detroit: Become Human" where your choices actually matter.
Now I'd like to discuss something I haven't talked about on this blog in quite some time and that's battle rap...or more correctly diss tracks. I love me a good diss track and this doozy is coming from none other than Nick Cannon going at Eminem. I won't belabor the history of how this all occurred but to give you some bullet points, Eminem dated Mariah Carey who would later become Nick's ex-wife, Eminem made comments about their relationship (his and Mariah's) and made comments about Nick and Mariah's relationship stating "I wish you luck with the f*ckin' whore.". This was a few years back and has long since simmered until now. Once again, Eminem made a comment about Carey on a Fat Joe song and Nick once again came out swinging with not one but 2 diss tracks ultimately inviting Eminem to come on Nick's show "Wild 'n' Out".
Now a lot of people are giving Nick a lot of grief over this and to be completely honest I applaud Nick for going after Eminem, after all Mariah was his wife at the time and if anyone said anything sideways about my wife I'd be remiss if I didn't have something to say about it. So I can't exactly blame Nick. I can, however, blame the other 3 who were featured on the diss track and that would be Charlie Clips, Hitman Holla, and Concieted...what were these 3 thinking? For starters, Eminem is actually a fan of battle rap so to think that Em is unfamiliar with these two is naive, after all Em knows who Dizaster is, Joe Budden battle Hollow Da Don, Royce Da 5'9 hosted Total Slaughter, Eminem produced Kid Twist's movie "Bodied", so yeah, Eminem is more than a little familiar. But getting back to my previous point, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! These 3 gentlemen just undid their entire battle rap careers in 2 songs.
Understand something, no one knows who Charlie Clips and Hitman Holla are outside of battle rap, yes, they're on "Wild 'n' Out" but that's the only format people know them from and that's not even mainstream. Eminem is mainstream and to have this guy mention you disparagingly is a career-ender. Not to mention the catalog of errors Eminem has to pull from if he wanted to gather dirt on any of them. Lastly, this isn't even their beef! Nick Cannon is in the right (or as right as he could possibly be given the circumstances) in wanting to defend the mother of his children, Hitman, Con and Clips have no dog in this fight and have NOTHING to gain by going after Eminem, NOTHING. Of all the people who started beef with Eminem it did NOTHING for them. It sure as hell didn't revive Benzino's career, nor did it do anything for Ja Rule. Starting something with Eminem is a BAD IDEA, full stop and these guys should know better, and when Em does respond (more than likely he will) it'll be a sad day for battle rap fans.
That's all for now as it is currently 5:27am and I'm due at work at 8am and this is the 1st day after a NASTY cold that laid me down for 4 days straight and forced me to miss 2 days of work. But I'm feeling 95% operational and that's enough to get the job done. I'll catch you guys later, whenever that'll be.
