STRANGE LOG: The Unassuming Waypoint From ?

We should talk about things. Yeah, it's another Strange Log, and we're looking at several things, mostly related, but there are many other things that aren't, not entirely. I'm rambling, here we go;

Let's start talking about "Dexter: Resurrection," which is starting to become a who's who of celebrity guest stars. The cast already boasts Peter Dinklage, Krysten Ritter, Neil Patrick Harris, and, oddly enough Uma Thurman. The Dexter "franchise" continues to baffle me because the premise of this show is BEYOND simple: "Dexter is a serial killer that kills other serial killers." The show has long since run away from that premise after the 4th Season. The 4th Season peaked because Dexter reached the apex of what he needed to be, Trinity exposed Dexter's" weakness in that in order for the show to continue there must be a new conflict, so instead of the premise being Dexter avoiding getting caught, it became Dexter becoming human...and the writers were unable to follow that premise and quickly pivoted back to Dexter avoiding getting caught, but after having done little to establish or build to Dexter getting caught (after season upon season of near misses) when Dexter finally does get caught (by LaGuerta) and then a new season immediately follows we can't help but roll our eyes.

Funny how everyone at the Police department FORGOT this happened...

Say what you will about "Dexter: New Blood," but at the very least Dexter getting caught meant he had to kill an innocent person and wasn't willing to face his punishment. At this point in time, the Dexter we get in "Dexter: Resurrection" is now a murderer and would be a wanted fugitive if Chief Bishop got wind of the fact that Dexter is still alive. So will "Dexter: New Blood" actually be good? Well, now that we're moving forward and not backward, I can honestly say I am interested to see what happens to our red-headed human hacker and Harrison. I will get the show its flowers for reintroducing him into the series and making him an internal part of "Dexter" (at least in "New Blood") now knowing what his father is, BUT, having Harrison reject that and not be his father's acolyte is going to dampen his appearance in "Resurrection". We'll see where this goes...

This was a good scene, though...

Moving right along, something I didn't think about until much later and due to a podcast no less, The MCU is more or less in a VERY weird state. We are two movies away from what they're calling "Avengers: Doomsday", and with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom at the helm instead of Kang The Conquerer, the only movie that could possibly tie into "Avengers: Doomsday" will undeniably be "Fantastic Four: First Steps", the only problem with that is Galactus and Shalla-Bal Silver Surfer are set up to be the main villains...which means Doctor Doom will be relegated to a post-credit scene if any scene at all. Prior to that, we have "Thunderbolts," which will introduce Sentry/Void to the MCU but will have little to do with Doctor Doom. Also, this is called "Avengers: Doomsday," EXCEPT...there are no Avengers, and the Avengers that are left are essentially no names. Let's dive in:
Sam Wilson
Captain Marvel
Spider-Man
Thor
Hulk
Ant-Man
Wasp
Bucky
Doctor Strange

and now:
Ironheart
Shuri (if the actress is still down to do it)
Monica Rambeau
Kamala Khan
Kate Bishop
America Chavez (Maybe?!)

Sorry, despite the power that is on this list, and yes, everyone on this list is capable...they're just no names. Unless you've been watching all of the Disney+ content (not shows, content) then you'd know who Kate Bishop is, and despite being in 1 movie (The Marvels), not too many people are gonna remember who Kamala Khan is as well as America Chavez. This is also assuming these characters will even appear in "Avengers: Doomsday", so we could be left with very few characters. Needless to say, The Fantastic Four are an absolute given, and seeing as how Sam Wilson is the new Captain America, he's a given, but that's about it. This is a serious problem because, aside from RDJ and Pedro Pascal, "Avengers: Doomsday" is lacking in critical star power, and I get it, "The Avengers" themselves are supposed to be the stars but this is like The Beatles with only Paul McCartney in that it's NOT THE BEATLES (it's Paul McCartney and a bunch of other guys singing Beatles songs). I have no clue how The MCU is going to make up for this because we're 2 movies away from the climax to Phase Six and what is being dubbed The Multiverse Saga, and they have butchered this completely.

"So let's stop wasting time!"...and Marvel didn't listen...

Switching gears, we now have a "Fantastic Four: First Steps" trailer, and it looks fine. Having it removed from The MCU at large will allow this movie to move with its own legs. That being said, can we PLEASE get over the Pedro Pascal hype? He's a fine actor, but HE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE IN EVERYTHING. He was never my first, second, or third pick as Mr. Fantastic Reed Richards. I'd have gone with John Krasinsk, and to their credit, they did, but only as a variant of Reed Richards. Penn Badgley would have been an interesting choice. But no, Pedro Pascal, fine, cool, whatever. I'm curious as to why Shalla Bal as Silver Surfer. I mean, I get why, but I don't understand why. Shalla Bal's backstory is absent without Norrin Radd, but instead of sacrificing himself, I guess she does. Either way, I might Disney+ this one, as it stands I haven't watched any of Phase Four beyond "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and a few of the TV shows "WandaVision", "Loki", "Hawkeye" and "Falcon & The Winter Soldier", but none of the movies. "Fantastic Four: First Steps" might be worth a watch. I love me some Galactus. We'll see if I check this one out or if I rely on clips to give me the cliffnotes.

Is it possible for this man NOT to be apart of a franchise? DC, Marvel, Star Wars...I mean honestly, chill out bro!

In other news, let's all check our thermostats to see if Hell has indeed froze over because the impossible has happened: John Cena has indeed turned heel. This is crazy, I'm old enough to remember when John Cena burst on the scene, coming in as a baby face and wrestling Kurt Angle to a near fall with "Ruthless aggression!" only to then transition into the White Rapper Doctor Of Thuganomics gimmick before turning babyface and basically running the WWE for nearly 2 decades. His stale babyface schtick worn thin pretty quickly as guys who should have gone over were fed to The Cena Machine over and over until "Cena wins, lol" became a meme. Fans everywhere were looking for something new for Cena, and a heel turn should have been in the works. Despite how I feel about him, Daniel Bryan was hot while Cena was on the rise, and a heel turn on Daniel Bryan would have worked. AJ Style came in with a lot of fanfare, and a heel turn on AJ Styles would have been great. So now Cody Rhodes is the new babyface, and John Cena and The Rock in his Final Boss persona (which I like) have united. I'm am SO looking forward to this because John Cena does very good heel work and is a good mic worker so now having an unleashed villain John Cena is new territory for this current state of the WWE and he can easily get another 10 years outta this if he plays his cards right. I'll be keeping my eye on WWE and John Cena because Cena hasn't been interesting since he did the job for Lesnar.

Thuganomics Re-Activated

Switching gears to reality TV, I don't know if I talked about "The Traitors" on this blog (I'm sure I have), but in case I didn't, I am a HUGE fan of "The Traitors". For all who don't know "The Traitors" is essentially a werewolf style game where you have a group of players called "The Faithful" and 2 players who are "Traitors" all competing to obtain money for a prize pot, 1 by 1 the Traitors eliminate the Faithful and the Faithful try their best to sniff out and banish a Traitor. While I am a fan of the series, after having watched every available iteration of the series, I've noticed a pattern, and that is THE TRAITORS ALWAYS TURN ON EACH OTHER! Season 1 was the only time a Traitor didn't turn on another Traitor (also the first time a Traitor self-eliminated), but every season and country, the Traitors turned on each other, with American Season 3 being the absolute worst between Danielle and Carolyn. I will say that the other countries are SO much better at casting because while America seems hell-bent on casting has-been reality stars and washed-up celebrities, other countries actually have regular, everyday people , which makes forming relationships that much better since no one has prior knowledge of each other.

If you know, you know...

One of the things I hate about American Traitors is when they reveal players and the other players are aware of who they are but we as an audience are left absolutely clueless because who don't watch "Survior" or "Real Housewives" or any of that other crap. I'd love to see a Traitors game where the Traitors are all on the same page and working to protect each other. We ALMOST had that with Australia Season1 BUT Mariella screwed that up. I love social deduction games and I love the premise of the Traitors BUT I wish the Traitors themselves could get it together and stop throwing each other under the bus. Maybe the Canadian Traitors are a lot nicer...guess I'll never know. That'll do it for me, "Daredevil: Born Again" is shaping up to be pretty awesome, BUT I'm only 2 episodes deep, Here's a GIF of me hoping it stays good, till next time.
