So, The MCU is in its death throes now, and after having ditched recasting Kang decided that the Ant-Man: Quantumania post-credit scene doesn't get a resolution, instead, we get Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Victor Von Doom, a casting choice so insane that I'm still wondering why and how it was met with cheers when it was announced. But now we have an official list of the players in The MCU's latest film and...what the literal hell am I looking at? The Fantastic Four is making an appearance, that's a given considering Doom is their primary antagonist, Chris Hemsworth is back as Thor, Anthony Mackie is back as Captain Falcon, Sebastian Stan is back as Bucky Barnes...and those are our leads in terms of potential leaders of this new set of...er...Avengers...? And that's problem number 1: Who is in charge here and why? Thor doesn't really have a relationship with Sam Wilson, and last I checked, Sam and Bucky didn't take too kindly to John Walker (maybe they'll officially patch things up in "Thunderblots*"), but who exactly is leading this team?

and Taskmaster...who I forgot was a part of this team... |
Perhaps this may be a war on various fronts because we already have Bucky as the leader of The Thunderbolts (Ghost, Yelena, Red Guardian, Sentry, possibly, and US Agent), Sam as the leader of The New? Avengers (Hawkeye, Latino Falcon, Ant-Man, Shuri, Thor, Doctor Strange, M'Backu and Spider-Man), The Fantastic Four, then...the X-Men (Prof. X, Magento, Nightcrawler, Mystique, Gambit, Cyclops, and Beast), and then there are the WTF characters...like Namor and Shang-Chi...why? Shang-Chi is a hero who should have made his debut in "Iron Fist" (if that show was good), and Namor...not being in a Fantastic Four film...and...being...Namor...what the hell? What's even stranger is that Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen are coming back as Prof. X and Magento...sadly not James McEfoy and Michael Fassbender (younger actors who audiences would recognize), no shade to Patrick and Ian. Notably missing people are Hugh Jackman (who will undeniably be in this) and Ryan Reynolds, and of course all of the new characters we've been introduced to...like Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, Ironheart and...er...I'm almost certain there's someone else.

Full disclosure, I'd have lost my collective shite if I'd have seen their names on the chairs...not gonna lie about that one bit... |
I said previously that nothing would bring me back to The MCU except for maybe Galactus, and now he's relegated to being in "Fantastic Four: First Steps", and while I absolutely loved the build up to Kang in "Loki", having him job out to Ant-Man was...not a good move...even if they revealed Immortus, The Scarlett Centurion, Rama-Tut and The Council of Kangs, they did set him up as a major threat. Recasting should have been done BUT Marvel decided to pivot to Doctor Doom...and while I adore Doctor Doom (don't get me wrong) this pivot is a strange one. Ignoring Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom for just a moment, having all of these characters in film like this, and characters with established backstories from previous films is just gonna feel like a cluster bomb of epic proportions. I suppose "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was a test to see if such a thing could be done, and lo and behold, it could. I gotta admit, I'm curious to see how this shakes down and what happens with all these characters.
Doctor Doom is the primary antagonist of The Fantastic Four, as his and Reed Richards's stories are intrinsically linked, as an example, this would be like introducing Lex Luthor in a Wonder Woman movie. They're gonna have to build Doom up and build him quickly because the character hasn't been mentioned, hinted at, or even easter egged; such a huge pivot is going to require Doctor Doom to have a significant presence in "Fantastic Four: First Steps" even while not being the main antagonist. This means that post-credit scene is gonna have to be AMAZING, because we're 2 movies away ("Thunderbolts*" and "Fantastic Four: First Steps") from "Avengers: Doomsday". So, what will the build to Doctor Doom be, and how will they justify a threat coming literally from nowhere? "Shang-Chi and The Legend Of The Ten Rings" is the only film to hint at a multiverse, considering the rings have a beacon inside them, but they never explained to whom it was calling. In the leaked "Kang Dynasty" script (and take that with a grain of salt), it was revealed that The Ten Rings were actually a multiversal artifact, which would explain the beacon...but now that "Kang Dynasty" has been nixed, all that came with it is probably nixxed as well. So the post-credit scene to "Thunderbolts*" has to do something to bring up Doom or else this is screwed.

Seriously, why? |
HOWEVER, in "Brave New World", The Leader did say that they'd have to protect their world from the others...which means that Doctor Doom might force the multiverse to fight each other...and if that's the case...*sigh*. Only time will tell what The MCU has in store but I just might shell out cash to see this clusterf*ck. We'll see where I stand as time draws near. Until then, seeing Kelsey Grammar's name in an Avengers movie is probably the weirdest thing outta that whole video. Catch you guys later.
