Anime RE-Claimed: A Sister's All You Need

I've watched a lot of anime, "Ninja Scrolls", "Bastard", "Vampire Hunter D", "Serial Experiments Lain" and so on and THIS, this is easily one of those "What am I watching?" animes. Let me back up and start at the beginning. This little gem came to me via Instagram when someone posted the opening scene of the 1st episode and that scene is more than likely infamous now and a good indicator as to what you're about to experience watching this show. That being said, this show hits a number of notes for me and while I won't be binge watching it as much "My Hero Academia" (easily best anime of last year), it's still one of those down to earth animes that still manage to be bat-sh*t crazy. Let's dive in and I'll give you the rundown.

There's a "joke" I always say when talking about my chosen profession (I'm a writer...wannabe, anyway) and the joke goes "Writers are the scum of the Earth, pure and simple." We're easily some of the worst human beings on the planet. Why? Because all writers are egotistical, narcissists, with self-esteem issues and God complexes. There's a reason why the stereotype for writers are starved drug addicts or bloated alcoholics.". While I say this tongue-in-cheek, I do believe it's partially true. This series speaks to me on a personal level because I'm a writer and I've recently gotten into board games as early as last year, imagine my shock when it turns out that main character Itsuki Hashima has board games on his shelf, ACTUAL board games. Like real life ones.

I own Splendor, Munchkin, Pandemic, The Resistance (but it's basically Avalon re-themed)

The series follows Itsuki Hashima, a 20 year old novelist whose series is widely successful but Itsuki (like all writers) is slightly insane, his insanity manifests it's self in a fetish for little sisters as his admiration for little sisters extends all the way to incest fantasies and other increasingly bizarre scenarios involving little sisters with an intense desire to have a little sister of his own...which unbeknownst to him...he does. His little step "brother" Chihiro is actually a girl and the much wanted little sister he's desired all his life, Chihiro masquerades as a boy at the bequest of Itsuki's father (her step-dad) after discovering Itsuki's obsession with little sisters.

What a mega cutie Chihiro is!

While Itsuki is the main character of the series, the other characters that revolve around Itsuki have their time in the lime light. Haruto is a fellow novelist and Itsuki's best friend for the most part whose series is currently getting an anime adaptation and then there's my 1st favorite character of the series Nayuta Kani a.k.a Kaniko (as she's called in the series) who is an incredibly pervy 19 year old genius author who is madly in love with Itsuki and makes no bones about showing it and saying it (even going so far as to straightforward ask him to "f*ck my face") and the only sane one of the bunch Miyako who always ends up in a hotel room naked with Kaniko...because reasons...

Nayuta Kani, doesn't look like an extreme perv but she is.

Miyako aside from Chihiro and Itsuki's tax accountant (and my other favorite character) Ashley Ono is the only character that isn't artistic (although Chihiro is a culinary artist) and hence she's the only sane one. Ashley Ono is Itsuki's & Haruto's tax accountant and she's a sadists, in exchange for revealing your deepest darkest secrets she'll get you the biggest tax cut you've ever seen and I love bunny eared lawyers. Once again this series hit a good number of notes with me. If the show isn't discussing the difficulties of writing, the fear of having your work adapted, and the various rituals and superstitions that writers have, it's showcasing how writers exercise their creative muscles by playing games and as you guys know I've recently become a board game enthusiast. I love me some down to earth yet bat-sh*t crazy comedy and this series is it. If it's not the wonderful board game sequences or the hilarious D&D campaign where all the characters play as girls and sisters none the less than it's just for the simple fact that as a writer and an artist I can appreciate all of these characters and their various struggles.

They make such cute D&D characters.

There is only 12 episode of this series and sadly that's not enough to cover all the ground needed to express the many plot threads going on in this series and I'd LOVE to find and read the manga of this. While this series isn't hentai or ecchi, if someone unfamiliar with anime came in at the wrong time, this series can get EXTREMELY awkward to watch. Anyway, really looking forward to finding the manga! I'll check you guys out later!
