STRANGE LOG: Where's The Tacos!?

So I've been super busy lately, not really, I've just been lazy and working a lot and being a dad and such but a lot has happened in the world of entertainment that I needed to comment on. So here we go a scattershot article (not really) about my thoughts on various things going on in the world of entertainment, let's dive in.

Let's start with "The Blacklist", while I didn't think it could happen, "The Blacklist" managed to provide a satisfying answer to Raymond Reddington's identity without providing an answer to Raymond Reddington's identity. If you're not watching "The Blacklist" then feel free to skip this paragraph, but if you are then you'll know that this upcoming season will be without Elizabeth Keen as she was gunned down in front of Reddington, BUT Reddington is still in the show and that's all we need. But last season it was revealed in not so many ways that Raymond Reddington was in fact Katarina Rostova. This has been a theory floating around for a LONG time and while I rejected it at first, as the dust settled over "Nachalo", Reddington being Rostova is the ONLY theory that makes sense. I was surprised because after a LONG time of half-answers and non-truths it feels good to FINALLY, FINALLY get some answers, and with Elizabeth gone we can focus on whatever is left for Reddington to do.

Moving right along, let's talk about the upcoming new season of "Dexter", which despite having quite a few "Dexter" related posts on my blog I have yet to actually discuss in any at-length fashion. So I have a few words to say about the revival season and one is that the trailer gave too much away. For starters I didn't need to know that Dexter was dating the small-town Sheriff, that could have gone without mentioning, Debra's involvement in the season could have been kept under wraps, and last but not least Harrison's return should have been kept under lock and key because my jaw literally dropped when I saw that. After having been nothing but an afterthought in previous seasons Harrison is finally going to be a part of the story. Needless to say, I'm excited about this revival considering "Dexter" was one of my favorite shows for awhile. Considering where we left Dexter with Miami believing him to be dead, Dexter starting his life over in some small town after assuming a new identity is pretty awesome. The cast of this season looks great, especially Clancy Brown who will undeniably play the villain (because that's what he does) and I'm looking forward to seeing where Dexter ends up. Here's to hoping this ends better than Season 8.

Let's talk manga and anime and I've been consuming a lot of manga and anime, buying and reading some to the point where I'm just like "This looks interesting, let's get it." sorta thing. I've been mostly getting my recommendations from memes, these days I've just been browsing Barnes and Nobles looking at manga and WOW, aside from there being a LOT of isekais (like a lot) there really is a manga for just about everything, that and titles are getting longer than the titles of FallOut Boy songs (which are getting shorter...hrm). Anyway, what's on my radar now is "Uzaki-Chan Wants To Hang Out" and another manga that escapes me at the moment (I'm using a library computer at the moment and I cannot access my Instagram at the moment) but either way all of these have animes now and I'm very much interested in them. I've been on a slice-of-life kick as of late and these seem to relax me and make me laugh. "Komi Can't Communicate", "Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro" and "Uzaki-Chan Wants To Hang Out" don't have dubs at the moment but when they do, without a doubt I'll be watching these.

Over and onward is to the "Matrix" and low and behold, the "Matrix" is getting a 4th movie, "Matrix: Resurrections" and...okay, how do I word this? For me, the "Matrix" ended with the machines standing down and Neo sacrificing himself so that Zion could return to the surface, at least that's what I got. Let's be completely honest about "The Matrix" and agree that overall the concept is pretty dumb (machines become vindictive and decide to use humans as a power source...even though humans used the Earth's core as a power source...so the machines...being smarter could've done the same but because they're capable of emotion now? they decide to entrap humans in a false reality to feed off of them? 'kay) but all that aside I'm down to enjoy the story as presented...but now we're living in 2021 the times of reboots and revivals and because of that, we're now treated with a new "Matrix" movie.

I'm thinkin' you're back...in the matrix that is...

From the trailers, Neo and Trinity looks as if they've lost their memories of each other and the events prior...which leads me to believe that they are back in the matrix and somehow the end of "Revolutions" is null and void. Things like this upset me because "The Matrix" for a long time was a concluded trilogy and in order to keep the story going any additional movie will have to void the original ending, case in point The Star Wars sequel trilogy had to bring Palpatine back thus voiding "Return Of The Jedi". Needless to say I'm not exactly leaping for joy for another Matrix film not that I didn't enjoy the series, it's just in my mind it's finished and that's that as far as I'm concerned.

Moving right along let's talk about my latest obsession that is "Persona 5". I am new to the whole " Shin Megami Tensei" series, I only heard about them in high school, and to my understanding "Persona" is a spin-off series. Ever since "Xenosaga" I have been looking for a JRPG to sink my teeth into and while "Tales of Beseria" was fine the combat system left much to be desired. A lot of JRPGs are abandoning turn-based combat for that free-range combat or whatever they call it (the kinda combat system "Tales Of Beseria" has). I personally like to get a feel for each character and develop a playstyle for each of them and build a team (as I did in Xenosaga) and I can finally do that here.

"Persona 5" is a revelation and everything I've been looking for in a JRPG game with a few exceptions.  The cut scenes are very long to getting from save point to save point is a chore and building up your stats is a chore, buying items is NUTS!! Everything is crazy expensive and if you're like me who likes to upgrade your gear after every mission, it's gonna be tough to get everyone top-notch gear all at once. On the flip side, money isn't hard to come by, a few hours in Mementos and you'll be making bank in no time. Now a caveat, I have the "Royal" version and this is the version you're gonna wanna grab because you'll have access to very powerful Personas right outta the gate which is something I wish I knew early on. I have no clue how far I am but I am loving this game. I just wish Morgana would get over his hate boner for Ryuji. When they first met him ribbing Ryuji was kinda cute but it's getting to the point now where he looks for nearly any excuse to run him down. All the characters are likable in their own right, Joker is obviously my favorite because I'm powerful as all get out, but I love Caroline and Justine and I wanna know more about them. So I'm really looking forward to finishing this thing and replaying it in the future. Hell, now that my wife has a switch I might actually check out "Shin Megami Tensei V"...we'll see.

Moving right along, I have a been interested in a TV show on the streaming service Peacock, this show is called "One Of Us Is Lying". Here's the thing, I'm starting to think that I may have been a teenage girl in another life because a lot of these YA series in which I am NOT the demographic ("Pretty Little Liars", "Ravenswood", "Riverdale") I find absolutely fascinating. "One Of Us Is Lying" is based on a book and what we have is a locked room mystery in which the school yard snitch ends up dead in a breakfast club style detention and one of the detention dwellers is the culprit. We have all the cliches' the bad boy, the jock, the honor's student, the harlot and the school snitch so we're checking all the boxes but I do have my own issues with the series and that comes in the form of The Jock character, a muscular Black boy named Cooper who's seeking baseball as his career goal and wouldn't you know it not only is he Black and an athlete but he's gay...

One of us is lying...all us are a cliche'

I had a feeling that was the direction they were gonna go with this character but when I saw a girlfriend I actually questioned myself. But it's current year and being a gay athlete isn't news or scandalous anymore. The gay Jock has been done TO DEATH and quite frankly I'd love to see the opposite where a character actually isn't gay and was just questioning himself but got in so deep that he'd be lying to his boyfriend about his true feelings (that he's actually straight) does that even happen? Seriously though of all the thing this show has going for it, decent locked room mystery, characters with secrets and the death of a snitch, it has yet to impress me on any significant level. Granted, I really didn't get the show a chance to breath since I'm barely outta the 1st episode but when I get back it I'll try and dedicate some time to really focusing. However I'm betting the conclusion as to who actually killed the snitch (Simon) will be some convoluted nonsense rather than one culprit and I doubt it'll make sense, but we'll see.

Anyway since I previously talked about JRPGS let's talk about CRPGs...and that is the Chinese game "Genshin Impact". So after seeing all the memes...and the chicks...let me be 100% honest and say that Ganyu and Mona are EXTREMELY HOT, I decided to give it a shot, after all it's a free game and I love free stuff and I don't have to play it online (BONUS) but after playing it...well...I haven't deleted it but the game isn't exactly holding my attention. I'm really too caught up playing "Persona 5" to really get into it but in all honesty I just wanna see Ganyu and Mona...that's seriously all I wanna see. Anyway, I'll eventually get back to it but so far not impressed.

Ganyu (left) Mona (Right) Serious cuties!!

Anyway, that'll do it for me. I have loads more to discuss but at the moment, it's late, I'm tired and to be honest, I really just wanna play some "Persona 5". Sorry for the lack of articles, I'm still working on that secret project...not sure if I mentioned a secret project but I'm working on a secret project. More articles will be coming, just my work schedule has changed once again and work is kicking the ever loving crap outta me, seriously, certain things have made my job much more difficult and unbearable. I wanna change jobs but as it stands it needs to be an upgrade. We'll see. Anyway here's a GIF of me at work. Catch you guys later.
