The Strange Thing About Numbers

Here's a strange article but one I just have to write because 1: I want to be the first to say it and 2: I just wanna get it on paper. So what's this article about? Well it's about something I've been thinking about for awhile and that's the nature of numbers, mathematics and things related. Let me start off by saying that this won't be a heady article, and by heady I mean it won't be exactly deep and you won't have to think too hard. Keep in mind, I absolutely suck balls at Math...so there won't be any in here, just a few things to think about. Let's get to it.

Numbers, in and of themselves do not exist. What do I mean by that? Let me explain. Take the number 5 for example. If I walked up to you and asked you to show me 5, what would you do? Chances are you'd show me 5 fingers or the Number 5 on your cellphone but ultimately you haven't shown me 5 in and of it's self. What you did do is show me 5 of something and a symbol we used to represent the numerical value of 5 but you at no point in time showed me 5. What I'm trying to say is that unlike words which are actions and descriptive and therefore can be explained or acted out, numbers can only be represented by something else but not by themselves. Numbers exist outside of our physical realm and can only be represented on this realm through objects. Since numbers don't exist on this plane of existence, numbers are not our creation, they're our discovery. We merely discovered the concept of numerical values and created words and symbols to represent them but we did not create 1,2,3,4 and so on.

Consider this, numbers are inherently perfect, why? Because numbers can't change, the numerical value of 1 will always be 1 even if you called 1 by a different name it does not change the value of it 1 of is still 1 of even if it's called Two. In a like manner 2 will ALWAYS come after 1, no matter how, when or where you are 2 will ALWAYS come after 1, because the numerical value of 1 is followed automatically by 2. In no conceivable reality will there EVER be a numerical value between 1 & 2, this is IMPOSSIBLE, not improbable, LITERALLY impossible. I know what you all are thinking, "What about 1/2?", 1/2 is a measurement, not a number in and of it's self, 1/2 indicates a whole which equals 1 that was divided into 2 parts, so either way you still have 2 of something even if it's part of a whole. Numbers are also self replicating, what do I mean by that? By simply increasing each number by the numerical value of 1 you get another number and another and another and another and...if you started counting right at this very second and never stopped you'd NEVER, EVER, EVER run out of numbers. Numbers are TRULY infinite, there isn't a point where you can say numbers stop, because they don't, each number can be increased even if you're at the largest number you can think of, that number can also be increased.

Because numbers are perfect and self-replicating, Math is truly and literally the ONLY perfect system that exists on Earth because it's immune from every other flaw that any other system has. Math is perfect because it's not invention, it's our discovery. 1+1 will ALWAYS equal 2 NO MATTER WHAT! Any and all equations CAN be figured out from the most complex to the simplest of mathematics. The greatest difficulty in Math is our limited comprehension of what we've truly tapped into and our various was of teaching math, in terms of variables (e.g. A+B=8, the A representing either 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and the B representing either 7,6,5,4,3,2,1, we know a combination of those numbers would equal 8). Math has NO FLAWS because Numbers have NO FLAWS!

Now for the REAL head throbber! The only Number that actually exists is 0 and the ONLY reason it exists is by the exact nature that it does not. For example, if I wanted to show you 0 of Pink Unicorns, by not showing you a Pink Unicorn I have successfully showed you 0 Pink Unicorns. 0 does not exist and because it doesn't we've successfully provided a numerical value to that which is not there, so by nothing being there, the Number 0 is actually, literally and definitionally represented in and of it's self because it's self is NOTHING. 0 is the ONLY number that can manifest it's self in the physical world and it does that by not being there. What do you think of 0 now?

  1. *head spins* yet...I get it! I know we you talked to be about this before, just not as in depth. Cool. =D
